A Sneak Peek At the Week…

Good Evening, Levy Families,

Hope you all enjoyed an extra hour of sleep!

We sure had fun surprising all our Levy Learners on Friday! The reaction when we all walked into the cafeteria was hilarious!

Upcoming Events:

  • Our next PTF Meeting will be held tomorrow evening, November 2nd, at 6:00 p.m. in the school library. Babysitting is provided, and new members are always welcome! Please join us if you can!

  • Parent-Teacher Conferences are this week, on Thursday, November 5th, from 5-8 pm. This evening is an opportunity for you to meet with your child’s teacher one on one and discuss his/her progress so far - we hope to see everyone there! Due to our tight timeline, we cannot accommodate “drop-in” conferences. You must have an appointment with your child’s teacher in order to meet with him/her. If you have not yet made an appointment, please contact the school as soon as possible and we will assist you!

Because appointment times are short, a little advance preparation can help you and your child’s teacher make the most of every moment. Start by talking to your child—let your child know that you are meeting with the teacher. Ask if there is anything s/he wants you to talk about with the teacher. Then, before the conference, think about

  • Any questions about the school’s programs
  • Things you can share with the teacher about your child and his/her life at home
  • Questions about your child’s progress

During the conference, consider asking these questions:

  • What are my child’s strengths and weaknesses?
  • How does my child get along with classmates?
  • Is my child doing his/her best work? Where could s/he use improvement?
  • What can we do at home to support what you are doing in the classroom?

The teacher will  most likely show you examples of your child’s work, which is the best way for you to see what your child is doing.

Remember that Parent-Teacher Conference night is just one opportunity to talk about your child’s school experience.

If you have any ongoing questions or concerns, feel free to ask your child’s teacher for another appointment. And, as always, if there is

any way in which I may be of help, please do not hesitate to see me on Thursday evening, or call at any time!

  • Anyone who ordered items through the Cristoline Fundraiser will be able to pick them up on the evening of November 5th from 3:30 - 8:00 pm!

  • There will be no school NEXT Wednesday, November 11th, in observance of Veterans’ Day.

  • On Thursday, November 19th, from 6-7:30 p.m., our district’s  Superintendent, Facilities Director, Business Manager, Curriculum Director, Technology Director, Pupil Personnel Services director, and I will be making a presentation for the public at Levy School. This is an overview of the good work that the district has done over the past 6 years and a preview of the plans and work that are ahead of us. It promises to be a very informative evening, most especially for our Levy parents, whose children will be in the Burrillville Public Schools (we hope!) for many years to come! Please plan to attend if you can - we look forward to welcoming you!!

  • First Graders and Kindergarteners are all invited to bring in their boxtops and labels and to visit the school store this week.

    • Mrs. Allard would like to remind families that box tops and labels must be turned in with UPC codes and expiration dates intact. Any box tops or labels that are missing this critical information will not be accepted by the sponsoring companies and must be thrown away.

Some Updates and Reminders:

  • Austin the Seahorse: Friday was such a crazy day that we let Austin sit it out...a new class will be chosen this week!

  • Our Thanksgiving food collection has begun! You should have received a notice this past week asking for a specific type of food donation, based on your child’s class. If you can help to fill Thanksgiving baskets for our families in need, we would be very grateful!

  • The PTF is also collecting donations of baby wipes and hand sanitizer for use at our school functions. If you would like to help out, please send items to school in a bag labeled PTF. Thank you!

  • We Levy teachers love a good candy bar as much as the next person - and we know how excited children are to eat their Halloween candy! We have found, though, that lots of sugar at snack and lunch time can lead to behavior issues and afternoon “crashes” in our little learners. Please help us by limiting your child’s treat intake to no more than one a day at school!

For information at any time, please be sure to check out our Levy website at atl.bsd-ri.net.  As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to call or email me at any  time!

Have a great week!
