BaseballReading Week is coming!!

                                                                April 11-15, 2016

Hit a Home Run – Read!

Dear Levy Families,

We are looking forward to this year’s Reading Week celebration, which we are piggybacking with a school spirit week!  Students are invited to look for books to learn about baseball and other sports during our weeklong celebration.  Many related titles are available in our public library – anything connected to baseball and sports is relevant. Here’s the agenda for the week’s events:

EVERY DAY we will have a mystery reader share a description of a character or an excerpt from a favorite children’s book with  a sport theme - the identity of the Mystery Reader and the character will be revealed at the end of the day! Each class may work together to make a guess and send it to the office during the day.

Each class will also have the option to decorate a space outside their classroom with a display that hints at a mystery book. Teachers will have gallery walks during the week so that each class can visit the displays and try to guess the books!

MONDAY “Be a Fan of Reading”

  • Kick-Off for “Reading Rocks” contest – the class that reads the most pages wins a pizza party and t-shirts, and the teacher wins a Staples gift card. Our library/book room gets $500 for new books!

  • Students will wear their favorite sports team apparel - be ready to read your shirt and hat logos

  • Sports parade first thing in the morning!

TUESDAY “Be a Good Sport Day”

  • Dress to reflect your favorite sport and cover yourself with sport-specific vocabulary (for example, if your favorite sport is dance, you could dress in a tutu and attach the words pirouette, ballet, turn, spin, leap, balance, leotard, barre, position, etc.)

WEDNESDAY “Wacky Wednesday”

  • Feel like wearing mismatched socks? Wanna have your shirt on inside out? Pants backwards? Today’s the day!!

  • Special Assembly: Mrs. Mayhew will eat that awful, wacky hot dog covered in HOT SAUCE, GUMMY WORMS and MARSHMALLOWS!

THURSDAY “Be a Reading Spectator”

  • Bring in a beach towel, your best “shades” and your favorite book and get ready to meet outside for some people-watching and sunshiny reading!

FRIDAY “Snuggle Up with a Good Book”

  • Wear your PJ’s.

  • Reading Rocks forms due to the office by 9:00

  • Today is National Drop Everything And Read Day, so at an undisclosed

time, an announcement will be made and everyone in the building will DEAR for 15 minutes!

  • Storyteller Keith Munslow will visit for a special assembly at 9:30!
